Description
Who We Are
Tetra is leading the charge in Canada’s digital asset revolution, solving one of the final barriers to widespread institutional adoption: secure, compliant custody. With extensive financial and advisory backing from institutions like National Bank, ATB Financial, Shopify, and Wealthsimple, we’re launching Canada’s commercial stablecoin and scaling beyond custody into a multi-billion-dollar ecosystem. Founded in 2019 under Tetra Digital Group, we’re building the world’s premier institutional-grade digital asset infrastructure with the stability of a financially robust organization and the high-octane agility of a startup with world-class potential. If you’re a high-energy, ambitious builder who thrives on creating world-class teams and systems in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, Tetra is your launchpad to leave a legacy in the global fintech arena.
Who You Are
You’re a seasoned compliance professional with strong judgment, high integrity, and a pragmatic approach to regulation. You thrive in regulated environments where expectations are high and precision matters. You’re equally comfortable executing day-to-day compliance activities and stepping back to assess risk, controls, and program effectiveness.
You bring hands-on experience with AML programs and a strong understanding of digital assets, custody models, and financial crime risks in emerging technologies. You enjoy being close to the work, partnering with operations, technology, and leadership to ensure compliance is embedded into business processes—not bolted on.
Detail-oriented, accountable, and calm under pressure, you’re motivated by building and maintaining strong compliance foundations in a fast-evolving regulatory landscape. You’re excited to work closely with the Chief Compliance Officer, take ownership of core compliance functions, and play a meaningful role in a regulated crypto business scaling responsibly in Canada.
What You’ll Be Doing
Day-to-Day Compliance Operations
- Manage the day-to-day execution of the compliance program for a regulated crypto custodian and trust company.
- Oversee routine compliance activities including monitoring, issue tracking, regulatory obligations management, and internal controls.
- Act as a first point of escalation for operational compliance questions across the business.
AML / ATF Program Management
- Support and maintain the AML/ATF program in accordance with FINTRAC requirements and applicable provincial and federal regulations.
- Oversee client onboarding, KYC, client risk assessments, and ongoing monitoring activities.
- Review and assess alerts, reports, and escalations, including suspicious transaction reporting where applicable.
- Coordinate periodic AML effectiveness reviews, testing, and remediation efforts.
Policies, Procedures & Controls
- Maintain and update compliance policies, procedures, and internal frameworks to reflect regulatory expectations and business changes.
- Ensure policies are operationalized and understood by relevant teams.
- Assist with the development and execution of compliance training programs.
Regulatory & Governance Support
- Support regulatory interactions, examinations, and information requests.
- Assist in preparing materials for senior management, committees, and the Board, including compliance reporting and risk updates.
- Track regulatory developments relevant to trust companies, qualified custodians, and digital asset businesses, escalating impacts as needed.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Work closely with Operations, Technology, Treasury, and Product teams to identify compliance risks and design practical controls.
- Support vendor due diligence and third-party risk management activities.
- Contribute to building scalable compliance processes as the business grows.
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- 3-5+ years of progressive experience in compliance, AML, or financial crime roles within financial services.
- Direct experience managing or supporting an AML/ATF program subject to FINTRAC oversight.
- Experience with digital assets, crypto custody, fintech, or payments environments.
- Exposure to regulated trust companies, custodians, or similarly regulated financial institutions is strongly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of Canadian AML/ATF requirements, including KYC, client risk assessments, ongoing monitoring, and reporting obligations.
- Solid grasp of compliance risks associated with digital assets, wallets, custody models, and blockchain-based transactions.
- Ability to interpret regulations and translate them into clear, operational processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting policies, procedures, and management reporting.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory environment with a hands-on mindset.
Personal Attributes
- High integrity, sound judgment, and a strong sense of accountability.
- Collaborative, approachable, and solutions-oriented.
- Able to work independently while maintaining strong alignment with the CCO and broader leadership team.
Nice To Have
- Experience working for a digital asset company, trust company, or qualified custodian environment.
- Familiarity with National Instruments and custody-related regulatory frameworks.
