Tetra Trust is seeking a strategic, experienced, and entrepreneurial Senior Director of Finance to lead our finance function during a period of growth and innovation. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role is critical in managing complex financial operations, structuring strategic deals, and supporting corporate development within a fast-paced and regulated environment. The ideal candidate understands the intricacies of Canada’s digital assets and payments space and has a proven track record navigating financial complexity in early-stage or rapidly evolving businesses.

This role is based in Calgary, Alberta with a structured hybrid work model of at least 3 days in the office per week. This role requires a full-time office work model during the first three months. Travel to Toronto will be required periodically.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Finance & Corporate Development
- Structure and lead strategic partnerships, M&A, and financing deals, including cap table management, investor relations, and due diligence.
- Develop and implement scalable financial frameworks and capital strategies aligned with long-term business goals.
- Serve as a key advisor to the executive team and board on financial planning, fundraising, and market expansion.
- Prepare and present board-level financial reports and strategic analyses, supporting decision-making at the highest level.
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Oversee all financial operations including accounting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), treasury, tax, audit, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting under IFRS accounting standards.
- Design and enhance internal controls and risk management practices suitable for a regulated crypto environment and a regulated Canadian trust company.
- Identify and implement modern finance tools, automation strategies, and AI-enabled processes to increase accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of finance operations.
Market and Regulatory Understanding
- Stay ahead of evolving crypto asset and payments regulations in Canada; collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure financial processes are aligned with regulatory expectations.
- Act as a liaison with financial institutions, regulators, and key stakeholders, communicating the financial and strategic vision of the company.
Leadership and Team Building
- Be hands-on while building and leading a small but growing high-performance finance team, starting with one direct report initially, in a high-growth environment.
- Foster a culture of innovation, transparency, and excellence within the finance function and across the organization.
What we are looking for:
We are seeking a dynamic leader who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving industry. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Education / certification: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or accounting. CPA,CFA, MBA or equivalent professional designation.
- Experience:
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally with a blend of high-growth startups, fintech, and institutional financial services.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, accounting principles, and regulatory compliance.
- Deep understanding and experience of digital assets, blockchain technologies, custody models, financial SaaS and Canadian payments infrastructure.
- Experience structuring and managing finance operations across complex corporate entities, navigating investor negotiations, and scaling financial operations in regulated industries.
- Proven ability to lead in ambiguous, fast-evolving environments where standards are being defined.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Technical Skills:
- Corporate Finance & Strategy – Financial modeling and scenario analysis, capital raising (equity & debt), M&A structuring and due diligence, Cap table management and investor reporting, business model design and unit economics in digital financial services and SaaS.
- Accounting & Reporting - Advanced knowledge of IFRS, Regulatory financial reporting (e.g., OSFI, FINTRAC), Internal controls and audit readiness, Crypto asset accounting and fair value measurement, Intercompany agreements and transfer pricing.
- Treasury & Risk Management - Treasury operations in multi-currency environments, Liquidity management and forecasting, Digital asset custody frameworks and risk controls, Counterparty, operational, and regulatory risk assessment.
- Crypto & Payment Infrastructure - Understanding of blockchain protocols, custody models (hot, cold, MPC, etc.), Knowledge of Canadian payment systems (e.g., Interac, RTR, Lynx), Experience integrating crypto and fiat rails, Awareness of emerging standards (e.g., Travel Rule, ISO 20022)
- Tech Stack Fluency - ERP/accounting systems (QuickBooks, Xero), Billing systems,Familiarity with APIs, smart contracts, and blockchain analytics tools is a plus.
- Automation - Familiarity with finance automation platforms, AI-based reconciliation or analytics tools.

- Strategic Thinking - with an ability to align finance strategy with broader business goals and a vision for scaling finance function in rapidly evolving environments.
- Leadership & Team Development - Track record of building and mentoring finance teams, Ability to lead across functions (legal, compliance, tech), Talent for instilling a performance-driven, transparent culture
- Communication & Stakeholder Management - Executive-level reporting and board communication, Cross-functional influence and collaboration (especially with product and compliance), Comfort presenting to investors, regulators, and partners.
